WP1 Project management and cooperation with China

This work package aims to facilitate the daily work and reaching the objectives of the project. To do so, management of the consortium, organization of the meetings and workshops, controlling the timetable, deliverables and general progress of the project will be the main tasks. Due to the fact that European and Chinese partners will need to interact and share information, this work package will also provide the required tools to ensure a good communication, collaboration and information sharing.

WP2 Sustainable feedstock production and distribution

Work package 2 will contribute to the overarching objective 2 of the project (Develop a reliable and globally harmonized LCA approach for the potential alternative aviation fuel supply chain on low cost, low energy consumption, low emissions, and to establish new LCA values for set of feedstock to fuel pathways based on this methodology). More specifically, work package 2 will examine the production characteristics of the alternative jet fuel feedstocks and their impact on GHG emissions and land use change.

WP3 Life Cycle Analysis of alternative jet fuels

Work package 3 will contribute to the overarching objective 2 of the project (Develop a reliable and globally harmonized LCA approach for the potential alternative aviation fuel supply chain on low cost, low energy consumption, low emissions, and to establish new LCA values for set of feedstock to fuel pathways based on this methodology).

More specifically, work package 3 will conduct the full life-cycle analysis of the alternative jet fuel for a broad range of pathways.

WP4 Alternative aviation fuel composition requirement

The purpose is to establish fuel property-chemical structure relationships to broaden alternative aviation fuel composition, and establishing the blend tools. The partners will carry out the following experiments/studies:

BUAA with SAFRAN, ONERA and AIRBUS will be in charge of blends tools & models related with alternative aviation fuel utilization.

WP5 Combustor and Engine tests and models

The objective is to develop a general testing method, the method of establishing standard engine model and standard combustion chamber model. In this WP we will perform test at different scales.

In addition, we propose to complete and exploit the experimental studies on the influence of alternative fuel physico-chemical properties on combustion characteristics led by ONERA and BUAA, HAPRI and AECC CAE.

WP6 Sustainable aviation fuel introduction in aviation commercial market

The objective is to analyse the key driving forces of air transport growth in the World, EU and China; how business models are supposed to develop in the near future and what are the main obstacles for the introduction of a sizeable amount of sustainable fuel, including a description of present and future regulatory and market based mechanisms.

WP7 Policy, regulations and operational optimization on the use of alternative fuel

The project is expected to formulate specific recommendations for stakeholders on flight planning and on the use of alternative fuels. This activity aims at: 1) reviewing existing worldwide experiences on introducing sustainable fuels on a comparative basis; 2) analyzing the airlines’ behavior response under different economic policy instruments describe the impact of various policy instruments; and 3) identifying mechanisms to introduce sustainable fuels in commercial aviation in the near future.

WP8 Dissemination and Exploitation

The main objective of this work package is to ensure an adequate framework for making known the study results to the highest number of interested entities, with the purpose of expanded their benefits further than the involved partners.

WP9 Ethics

The main objective of this work package is to ensure an adequate management of ethics issues.
